OP/POP ART PRINTS IN MY HOME

Continuing the things in my home, here is one of my favourite screen prints. Its by Joe Tilson and I got it for a steal on ebay and decided to frame it in a deep set black wooden frame.

Joe Tilson initially worked as a carpenter and joiner from 1944 to 1946, before carrying out his National Service in the RAF until 1949. He went on to study at St Martin’s School of Art, London from 1949 to 1952 and at the Royal College of Art, London from 1952 to 1955 where he received the Rome Prize, taking him to live in Italy in 1955.
He returned to London in 1957, and from 1958 to 1963 he taught at St Martin’s School of Art, and subsequently at the Slade School of Fine Art, University College London,

Kings College, Newcastle upon Tyne, The School of Visual Arts, New York and the Hochschule fur Bildende Kunste, Hamburg.
London-born artist who trained as a carpenter before studying at St Martin's and the Royal College of Art with Auerbach, Blake and Kossoff among his contemporaries. In 1955 he was awarded the Rome Prize and since then has spent much of his time in Italy. Originally associated with the British Pop Art movement in the early 1960s, Tilson has achieved international acclaim over the last forty years for the originality of his paintings, constructions, reliefs, prints and multiples, whose sources are drawn from literature, philosophy, ethnography and alchemy.

Featured Designer OLE WANSCHER

Each week I will be featuring a designer, who is worth collecting. Today its a Danish Grand Master.
Ole Wanscher

Ole Wanscher b.1903 d.1985, a student and follower of Kaare Klint, was noted for his strong influence of classic forms in furniture design, redeveloping these themes for modern times and means.

Wanscher designed a number of elegant pieces in traditional materials with a modernism influence of designing affordable furniture for the people. Wanscher also produced several luxury designs in limited editions. Wanscher studied furniture design on trips through Egypt and Europe with his father who was researching the history of fine arts.

My Favourite of his is the colonial chairs and The Rocker for France and Sons. I have a brown velvet one coming into my shop in the next couple of days.!

ORLA STE-ELY

Ok I have to get this off my chest, am I the only one who thinks her designs are crap and its just the same pattern over and over and over again.. talk about overuse.

Also I think her furniture is a disgrace... she has no original ideas, just this one pattern.. all her furniture is rip offs of classically designed mid-century modern furniture, how she gets away with it I do not know why!!!..

for example: above is orla's sideboard.. below is the one of the daddy's of danis sideboard's by Arne Vodder

here's some more spot orla's and then the originals....
